Permit information for the City of El Paso

No Permits Required:

 No building permit is required for routine maintenance or repairs of buildings, structures or equipment, such as painting, reroofing or replacing broken or deteriorated parts.

  • No permit is need if you are replacing an exiting driveway and it is under 3000 square feet of cement or blacktop.


Permits Needed: (listed are the more common permits)

 Chapter 138-1 Moving of Buildings

  1. Chapter 163-1 New driveways
  2. Chapter 171-3 Discharge of fireworks
  3. Chapter 203-3 Construction, alteration or extension of manufactured home park
  4. Chapter 203-36 Manufactured home installation
  5. Chapter 203-37 Install, remove, and placing of an addition or accessary structure to a manufactured home
  6. Chapter 227-5 Peddlers and Solicitors
  7. Chapter 232-3 Facility on the right-of-way
  8. Chapter 243-5 Signs
  9. Chapter 244-9 Solar energy systems
  10. Chapter 280-1 Planting any tree or shrub in any public street or parkway
  11. Chapter 280-2 Removing any tree or shrub from any public street or parkway
  12. Chapter 302-36 installing or repairing any building sewer
  13. Chapter 302-57 Any connection with the water system
  14. Chapter 315 Zoning
  1. No structure or building shall be erected or structurally altered without a permit
  2. Patios (cement, wood, building material)
  3. Accessory building
  4. Portable storage sheds over 288 square feet
  5. Car ports
  6. Any cement or blacktop work over 3000 square feet
